I had the immense privilege of photographing Miss K and getting to know her before her wedding. I’m happy to now call her a friend, but I remember her coming to the studio this day and could sense her nerves. She turned over a large bag of lingerie onto the couch, and we went through and picked out a few different styles and things to try – I loved the range of casual to saucy, which I think perfectly fits all the facets of her personality. Something a little sweet and something quite bold. It’s a blast watching the confidence build – it starts in the makeup chair, and fully evolves as we shoot and talk through what brings you here. In Miss K’s case, she came in wanting a gift for her husband to be – but I truly think she and I were the winners here. So happy we met. Here’s her take:
Age: 28
Occupation: Nurse
What are you most proud about?
I am most proud of the woman I have become and that I found the courage to celebrate my strength, power, beauty and femininity through this shoot.
Was the shoot what you were expecting?
Truthfully, I was beyond nervous and self doubting until Lara showed me what she was capturing behind her lens. My jaw hit the floor when she showed me a photo during the shoot and I saw what my now husband sees in me. I finally didn’t see every curve, dimple or stretch mark as a flaw, but rather as a storyline of my life. I saw confidence and happiness that I never thought I would have with myself smiling back at me.
How did you feel after the shoot?
After the last shot was taken, I stood there in my black bodysuit and knee high boots and I finally felt truly comfortable in my body. I felt like a woman.
Would you recommend a boudoir shoot to friends?
A million times yes. I already have and will continue to do so. It was a life altering experience for me and I can only hope more people can experience the self love I felt during my shoot.
What did you do with these portraits?
I created a boudoir book with Lara as a wedding gift to my husband which he opened on our wedding day {on camera} and he was speechless. It was the best gift I could have gotten either of us.
