All photographers have what they would classify as their “dream clients”, myself included. It’s usually a combination of personality traits, things in common, style, budget, and venue. But every once in a while a couple comes along and not only aligns with those aspirations, but expands upon what you thought you wanted, and possibly more importantly, asks for your best self. I know that sounds like quite a grand statement for what could have been a lovely fluffy wedding blog post about this fabulous Moraine Farm wedding – but as I sit down to write about Eric and Mariel’s wedding, I realize I’m different for having met them. And that is quite profound.
Eric and Mariel are project managers and problem solvers by trade, and generally very motivated, organized, and thorough. They are confident, discerning, and decisive. They are competitive 🙂 And they are incredibly open-hearted and excitable. They came to me with a list of things that were important to them: moments and mementos, people and concepts, and asked me earnestly, if I felt I could deliver on those and what I needed from them to make that happen. I listened and took a moment to actually think about my answer. “Trust”, I said. The words I used above to describe these two, are many of the words I use to describe myself. I have high standards, and it’s hard for me to give up control. That tight grip makes you wonder if people are going to do their jobs correctly, and do it the way you would want it done. Planning a wedding means giving up some level of control to people you’ve just met and trusting them to execute one of the most important days you’ll share as a couple. And while I’ve known this information – for some reason, it had never been more clear to me on the day I met Mariel + Eric. And I stepped up, and vocalized exactly why they should hire me. {More on that soon} So these two let me shine: from their engagement shoot, to their save the dates, their guestbook, to their custom designed wedding album with super sexy embossed logo: they asked “how would you do this”, and I told them what my DREAM was. These two are the dream client because they love each other madly. They respect one another, and they put their trust in me. We had a total blast, and these two lived out one of the most special, sentimental, well organized parties I’ve ever been too. And it was an honor. I am most proud of the work we did together and I truly think of it as collaborative, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t also thank Joe at Contagious Events, Amy at Moraine Farm, Bre from Leather and Lace Artistry, and Karla from Karla Cassidy Design these guys make me, and you, look good.
